Gramin Vikas Sansthan

This is a story of gram panchayat Sabji of Bachhrawan block in Rae Barely district. Before the Sure Start Programme in the village, regular meetings were not being conducted. Pradhan Bhagwandeen was also unaware of the health and cleanliness committee formed for better health of the village community and whenever he was asked of conducting the meeting, he always tells them to conduct it on their own and that he is not needed at the meeting. Continuous efforts made him understand his role and responsibility. In the meetings issues of looking after the mother and child were being discussed and related problems were also started coming up.

In the meeting pradhan was told that one position of ASHA and one of anganwadi worker are vacant due to which the village is devoid of the services being given by them. The committee took the decision to fill the posts and proposal was passed. Pradhan also took up the responsibility for the same. Afterwards both positions were got filled.

Only after this it came to the knowledge of the committee that vaccination had not taken place for three months as ANM was sick for a long time and 19 women from the village could not availed the benefit of Janani Suraksha Yojana. To sort out the problem the pradhan took action in writing. This resulted in sending other ANM to the village by the medical officer and getting the vaccination completed. Along with it those 19 women were also made to get the Janani Suraksha Yojana benefit by continuous advocacy for the cause.

The change that occurred in the pradhan has made the committee giving priority to the mother and child issues and the works of regular workers are also being monitored.
